Cloverdale Police Department Taking Back Unwanted Prescription Drugs On October 29thOn Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Cloverdale Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.
Bring your medications for disposal to the following location in the City of Cloverdale: - Cloverdale Police Department, 112 Broad Street, Cloverdale, CA 95425
The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

Draft Housing Element Update Now Available The City of Cloverdale is in the process of updating the Housing Element of the City’s General Plan to ensure that the City is prepared to meet the future housing needs of Cloverdale. Under State law, every City and County in California is required to update its Housing Element to address specific requirements and submit the element to the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).
The Housing Element serves as Cloverdale’s blueprint for meeting the housing needs of current and future residents at all economic levels including those with unique or specific housing needs.
The Draft Housing Element Update is now available for public review from October 27 to November 27, 2022. Comments may be submitted to CloverdaleHousingElement@4leafinc.com or mailed/delivered to Cloverdale City Hall (124 N. Cloverdale Blvd) by Sunday, November 27.
Participation from the community is vital to ensure that Cloverdale’s values are identified and articulated in the Housing Element, and that the City’s approach provides the best fit for the community’s goals, values and priorities. Public comment received on the Draft Housing Element will be incorporated into the Final Adopted Housing Element submitted to the state for review and anticipated for adoption in early 2023.

Parks UpdateTo begin, L&L District Brookside Terrace was treated with a full day of landscaping maintenance. The project consisted of mowing the lawn, pruning all trees located within the lawn area, hedging all shrubs and ground cover, as well as the removal of several sprinklers. Current drought conditions have resulted in the eventual decline and expiration of many plants, resulting in less need for irrigating. We were able to install a thick layer of redwood chips which will aid in water retention moving forward and conserve a considerable amount of water for the district. Parks staff mounted the long awaited Porterfield Creek Open Space Preserve sign. The Park sign is made of heavy steel for durability and a special coating to protect against the elements and vandalism. Please come visit the park to check out the new sign we have featured. Parks staff replanted three trees located on East 2 nd Street. The previous trees were removed due to very aggressive. This issue had caused the asphalt deterioration and uplifting of the sidewalk. The project required the City Arborist to conduct a tree health evaluation, followed by the removal of problematic trees, the repair of several feet of sidewalk sections, as well as the removal and repaving of several feet of asphalt on the street. Lastly, City Arborist, in collaboration with nearby business owners, determined the street tree species best suited for the area. Root barriers were also installed to encourage roots to grow downward to prevent any future damage to infrastructure. Parks staff initiated the first leaf collection efforts for the season at the Second Street City Park. The park is home to a large Oak Grove that is the main attraction of the Park. With Autumn upon us, staff stayed busy raking leaves into compost recycle containers. To encourage use of our newly built pickleball courts, several Pickleball paddle and ball sets were delivered to designated groups within the community. We are excited to have residents take the opportunity to share the equipment, free of cost, by checking out and in at their convenience. The first designated location is the Cloverdale Senior Center located on 311 N Main Street the Second location is La Familia Sana located on 223 N. Cloverdale Blvd. All Parks and playing fields were mowed to a designated soccer height as well as continuous Arborist inquiries and service requests responded to.
