Public Works Maintenance UpdatePublic Works Staff continued maintenance improvements on City maintained property this week. The existing ADA parking spaces located at the City's parking lot located on Main Street were refreshed with the universal ADA asphalt markings (see picture below). The existing spaces are clearly marked with the International Symbol of Accessibility mounted on a pole.
Public Works staff also spent time addressing raised concrete sections in various parts of the City with a focus on areas with high pedestrian uses. Public Works staff focused on addressing trip hazards in Downtown Cloverdale at the corner of E. 2nd and Cloverdale Boulevard, Cloverdale Park Plaza and the Cloverdale Senior Center. Concrete Grinding is a modern technique to eliminate trip and fall hazards. The process uses a dry surface Grinder to sand down the raised side of two joining sections of concrete. Within a matter of minutes, the raised side can be ground down permanently eliminating the "trip and fall hazard".
Thank you to Craig John and Javier Diaz for their work on these maintenance projects this week.

Parks UpdateSeveral critical projects were completed by Parks staff this week.
The Muscat Creek footbridge at Furber Park was in need of repairs. A fresh layer of concrete was applied to different open concrete cavities, which will ensure the safety of the hundreds of park visitors as well as prolong the overall life of the bridge.
Permanent signs were installed on the perimeter fences of the newly constructed pickleball courts, in both Spanish and English. We ask the community to respect and implement the court rules, to encourage safe play and maintain condition of courts for everyone to enjoy. Parks staff also added 15 yards of redwood chips near the Furber Park playground island. Parks staff removed12 large rotor sprinklers and replaced with a simple drip system for the existing trees. A 50ft X 65ft section of turf grass was removed, with the goal to reduce water usage at the Park.
Several large truckloads of dead vegetation were removed from the Cottages District, along the winery trail and across the creek. Due to the third consecutive year of drought, parks staff have spent numerous hours in all L&L Districts and Parks, removing dead vegetation that suffered due to lack of rain. This maintenance work continues the goal of reducing fire fuels around all of city-maintained areas.
All sporting fields were mowed to designated height. Parks Superintendent Galvan responded to several City Arborist requests.

New Public Charging Stations to Enable More EV DriversSonoma Clean Power (SCP), the public power provider for Sonoma and Mendocino counties, is working to improve access to public charging for current and prospective electric vehicle (EV) drivers.
In 2019, SCP received a $6.75 million grant from the California Energy Commission’s (CEC) California Electric Vehicle Incentive Program (CALeVIP) to expand the local network of EV chargers by partnering with businesses, nonprofits, multi-family properties, tribal governments, and government entities.
Qualifying sites receive rebates to help cover equipment and installation costs for Level 2 connectors and direct current (DC) fast chargers. Funding for the program comes from the CEC, SCP, and the Northern Sonoma County Air Pollution Control District, and is managed by the state’s CALeVIP administrator, the Center for Sustainable Energy. Since the program’s launch, 72 new EV charging stations throughout Sonoma and Mendocino counties have been installed and are now live, including 9 DC fast chargers and 63 Level 2 chargers.1
An additional 48 DC fast chargers and 61 Level 2 chargers are funded for completion in 2023. The program’s 181 chargers represent a nearly 20% increase for the region, where an estimated 954 chargers are currently available to the public.2 California’s ambitious goal is to have 250,000 public EV chargers by 2025. In July 2022, SCP dedicated an additional $800,000 in local funding to support building fast chargers in areas that were not covered or served by the sites initially funded through CALeVIP.
