Update on the November 8, 2022 Gubernatorial General Election by Deva Marie Proto County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Registrar of VotersI wanted to provide an update on the November 8, 2022 Gubernatorial General Election. We currently have 303,284 active voters. All voters will be sent a ballot in the mail for this election, pursuant to state law. The ballots will go out on October 10th. We encourage everyone to sign up to get notifications when their ballot is mailed, received by our office, and ready to be counted. If you haven’t already, you can sign up for that at https://wheresmyballot.sos.ca.gov. The ballots are bilingual, and consist of two 8.5x18 cards. There are 161 different ballot types. There are 67 contests and 21 propositions/measures. Voter Information Guides will be sent out soon, to each registered voter. The information is also available online in our accessible County Voter Information Guide. The State Voter Information Guide will be sent out separately, and is also available online. We also have the information (not specific to a voter/precinct) available on our Candidates and Measure webpages. We will have 21 ballot secure ballot drop boxes that will open on October 10th. These ballot drop boxes have not changed from the June election. The standard deadline to register for this election is October 24th. After that date, voters can conditionally register and cast a vote in person at any location. Starting on October 29th, we will have 7 vote centers open for in person voting. Those locations are our office, the Healdsburg Community Center, Sebastopol Center for the Arts, Santa Rosa Veterans Building, Cotati Veterans Building, Petaluma Veterans Building, and the Sonoma Valley Library. Sonoma Valley Library is a change from June, when the Sonoma Veterans Building was used. The early voting day hours are 9am to 5pm. On November 5th, 24 more locations will open for in person voting from 9am to 5pm, for a total of 31 locations. Most are the same as used in the June election, but several have changed due to accessibility or availability. Voters can choose to vote at any vote center in the County. They are no longer assigned to a specific location. To see a list and map of all the ballot drop box and in-person locations, please visit https://sonomacounty.ca.gov/wheretovote or our interactive map. In person voting will be available on Election Day (November 8th) from 7am to 8pm. Ballot boxes will be closed at 8pm. Initial results should be posted soon after. The initial results will consist of vote by mail ballots that have been received, signature checked, extracted and scanned prior to Election Day, and any in-person votes cast prior to Election Day. After 8pm, we will update the results periodically as the in-person votes are brought back to our office and scanned. That will probably be a small number of votes (comparatively). After the election, we will start the canvass process, which will consist of processing vote by mail ballots received on Election Day, late arriving ballots (must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received within 7 days), conditional voter registrations and provisional ballots. Updates will be done periodically until we certify. We have 30 days to certify the election.

SMART Posted a New Online Map of the SMART Pathway! The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) District along with partner agencies have constructed 25 miles of Class 1 SMART Pathway within and along the railroad right-of-way, with another 14 miles fully funded for construction. The SMART pathway provides first and last-mile connections to train stations and offers a safe way to travel along the rail corridor, particularly in areas where the SMART Pathway is the shortest path of travel between communities. The SMART train and pathway system enable cyclists to make longer journeys by extending their ability to use a bicycle as a preferred mode of travel.
SMART has created new maps with improved legibility and updated information on the status of the SMART Pathway. Maps are available in two formats: printable maps and an online interactive map (link below).
