Generators Staged at PG&E's Cloverdale SubstationOn Friday, August 5th, the City was provided the following notification from PG&E officials:
On behalf of the Governor’s Office, the State Department of Water Resources (DWR) has directed that PG&E stage temporary generation at certain substations across the territory in order to reduce load on the grid and support statewide reliability if the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) declares an Energy Emergency Alert 2 or 3 (EEA-2 or -3). This effort is being undertaken as part of the Governor’s Strategic Electric Reliability initiative provided for in the 2022-23 State Budget.
PG&E is anticipating that generators will be staged at the Cloverdale substation sometime in the next few days. According to PG&E, the generator units will not be operated other than for brief testing unless CAISO calls an EEA 2 or 3.
For more information about Emergency Notifications, see Cal ISO's Emergency Fact Sheet; Emergency-Notifications-Fact-Sheet.pdf (caiso.com) To learn more about emergency notifications, go to ISO System Emergency procedures.

4th Drought Town Hall - Drought UpdateOn August 4th, Sonoma County held a Drought Town Hall. The key piece of information that was disclosed that that the State Water Board will be issuing curtailments to water holders on the Russian River starting on Friday, August 5th due to the PG&E flow variance granted by FERC. This would subject the City to the water use thresholds permitted by the Minimum Human Health and Safety Petition.
In June 2022, the Division of Water Rights issued “Orders Regarding Curtailment Status” to each water right holder in the Russian River watershed including the City of Cloverdale. The orders require water right holders to monitor a “Curtailment Status List” and stop or reduce diversions when the list shows their water right is curtailed. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued an order to Pacific Gas and Electric Company on July 27, 2022, approving a variance that substantially reduces flows from the Potter Valley Project to the Russian River Watershed. The Division has monitored conditions in the watershed following FERC approval of the variance and the Division has now posted a revised Curtailment Status List reflecting the reduced water availability. The revision includes additional curtailments and right holders must review the new list to find their current curtailment status. The updated Curtailment Status List is available on the Russian River Drought Response webpage. Certain right holders must cease or reduce their diversions as directed by the list. All right holders must continue to monitor the Curtailment Status List for the latest curtailment statuses.

Parks UpdateSeveral park projects were accomplished during this work week. The majority of park staff's time was allocated to maintenance along the downtown corridor from St. Peters Church to the Cloverdale Library. There are several landscape areas throughout our city that are maintained by The Cloverdale Green Thumb Garden Club, but due to their decline in members, Parks staff will assist with maintenance from time to time. Parks Staff performed much needed weed abatement in a large island in front of the St. Peters Church. This effort continued to the Thymes Square Property where several hours were spent hedging the large shrubs, and then weed abatement, in the form of string weed eating. The project continued throughout our downtown, targeting raised stone planters and large planted areas near local business. One of the benefits of late summer pruning is removing dead foliage and any deseeded growth that can potentially cause stress to the shrubs. It also encourages hearty vigorous, growth. Pest control can also be addressed during this time of the year by removing small branches that have mites or aphids. Several yards of wood chips (bark) were broadcasted near Citrus Fair Drive by the Welcome to Cloverdale Sign as well as hedging of all shrubs on the east side of our town entrance. The Northern Sonoma County Fire Fuels crew are making tremendous progress on the vegetation fire suppression project along the Cloverdale River Park Trail. The Crew has completed 1.5 miles vegetation management so far and are scheduled to mobilize their efforts south of the First Street Crocker Bridge next week. Special Thanks to Mayor Lands who speared headed this effort .

Sonoma County Department of Health Services Issues Letter to Community to Increase Awareness about Monkeypox
The community letter issued on August 5th starts as follows: "We are facing a public health emergency. On Aug. 1, California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency to combat the spread of monkeypox. Three days later, the administration of President Joe Biden declared a public health emergency at the federal level as well. The emergency declarations will help ensure we obtain the critical resources needed to combat the spread of this virus. While this outbreak is very different from the coronavirus pandemic, we have learned many lessons over the past two years to help us battle the spread of infectious diseases. To date, we have learned of 17 cases of confirmed monkeypox among Sonoma County residents. This represents an increase from the county’s numbers last week and is suggestive of accelerating spread. Despite this jump, monkeypox continues to pose a low risk to the vast majority of Sonoma County residents." A fully copy of the entire letter can be found at the link below:
