County Completes Renovations to Cloverdale Swimming poolOn Friday, May 27th, the Sonoma County Department of General Services hosted a ceremony Friday to celebrate the completion of a $660,000 joint community project to renovate the aging swimming pool at the Veterans Memorial Building in Cloverdale.
The project, which began in 2018, included the installation of a solar thermal heating system that will allow the public to comfortably use the outdoor swimming pool in the spring and fall. Traditionally, the unheated pool has only opened over the summer. Renovation work included the demolition and replacement of the pool floor to install a new drain system and pump equipment. Workers also installed eight new metal tables and benches, replacing the rotted wood seating platforms. The county led the project in partnership with the City of Cloverdale and the Cloverdale Unified School District. The county owns the pool, which is operated and managed by the City of Cloverdale through an annual agreement with the Sonoma County Family YMCA. A ceremony to celebrate the completion of the project will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Cloverdale Veterans Memorial Building swimming pool, 205 W. First St., Cloverdale.
The pool will open to the public at noon on Memorial Day (Monday, May 30). Day use fees are $5 for adults, $4 for youth and seniors 55 and older, and $10 for families with up to two adults and their minor children, all living in the same household. Financial assistance for swim lessons is available from the YMCA for families in need. Visit the Sonoma County Family YMCA website for more information.

Water is a resource that our community shares, and it is critical that we all continue to protect and conserve this valuable resource. For water saving tips and programs you can take advantage of to conserve water and save money, visit SavingWaterPartnership.org. Parks UpdateParks staff concentrated their maintenance efforts on vegetation management activities in advance of the coming fire season. fire suppression projects. Due to higher than average temperatures this week the moister content to evaporate earlier in the season than usual. These dry heat conditions turn green open spaces and fields into fire hazards. Due to the high temperatures this week, Parks staff began the workday at 6am in an effort to mow tall grasses in the Cottages L&L District around Muscat Creek and the old winery structure. The goal of the work was to create a fire break between open spaces and nearby residents. Several hours were allocated to the County River Park by mowing tall grasses around picnic tables and trails. Preparations were arranged with Sonoma County Regional parks staff for the grand opening of the newly installed restrooms. Cloverdale Parks staff will begin cleaning the facility starting next Tuesday the 31st.
