Volunteers Needed for Point in Time Count The Point-in-Timecount is a count of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness. the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires that all communities receiving federal funding for homelessness services conduct a Point-in-Time (PIT) Count of people experiencing homelessness. The PIT Count is the primary source of nationwide data on homelessness and identifies people living in unsheltered and sheltered settings
The annual Sonoma County PIT count will take place on February 25th from approximately 5:00 am-10:00 am.
Reach for Home, a north county non-profit specializing in homeless outreach and services is coordinating this years point in time count. If you are interested in participating, please click here to volunteer.

Parks & Recreation Weekly ReportParks staff continue to perform landscaping projects, weed abatement and facility maintenance repairs. The highlight of the week was the general clean-up and winter pruning at the Cloverdale Senior Center. All trees were pruned to ISA standards as well as all shrubs hedged for aesthetics and to encourage growth. The City's bucket truck was utilized to remove hazardous limbs hanging over structures. Irrigation tips were provided to their maintenance staff, as a courtesy, to take care of some repairs of the irrigation system. Weed abatement was completed through our downtown corridor along sidewalks and in front of local businesses. The effort continued at the Porterfield Creek Preserve. Mechanical string weed eating was conducted and organic herbicides were applied with the goal to maintain the growth of vegetation. In preparation for the kick off of Cloverdale high school baseball season staff worked closely with coaches and school district officials to prepare this park for the next upcoming months. Second Street City Park will be hosting daily practices, tournaments and games. Parks.

Sonoma County Vision Zero Data Dashboard What is the Vision Zero Data Dashboard?
Sonoma County was awarded a $660,000 grant in May 2019 to start a Vision Zero program to increase traffic safety. Vision Zero is an approach to transportation that seeks to achieve the goal of zero fatalities and severe injuries.
This data dashboard is one of the County's first steps in developing the Vision Zero program. The data dashboard shows major patterns in crash data from around the County, and provides the ability to overlay other relevant data layers to contextualize the crash data. - Fatal and severe crashes in Sonoma County increased through 2017, but have started to decrease over the last few years.
- Pedestrians and bicyclists are disproportionately at risk.
- Nighttime crashes are more likely to result in deaths and injuries. However, there are more crashes of every severity level during the day.
- Driving Under the Influence is the leading cause of traffic fatalities. DUIs are the most common primary collision factor, and are responsible for more deaths and serious injuries than any other factor. Similarly, there are more crashes on weekdays, but more fatalities and injuries on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Slightly more injury crashes are reported during summer months.
- Throughout the County, 4% of commuters walk or bike, but these modes make up 19% of deaths. Similarly, motorcyclists represent 9% of deaths, but only 1% of commuters.
- Higher speeds mean more crashes, more injuries, and more deaths.
- Rural areas bear the burden of fatal and severe crashes.
