City Council Meeting - February 9

The Cloverdale City Council will hold a regularly scheduled meeting on:
Wednesday, February 9th at 6:00 pm

The meeting will be held at the Cloverdale Performing Arts Center. A zoom link is available on the agenda for virtual attendance and participation

Major agenda items on the Council agenda include:

Budget Amendment for the 4th Street Reconstruction Project
Agreement for preparation of a Watershed Sanitary Survey
Senior Center Funding Agreement
Appointment to the Continuum of Care Board
Budget Amendment for the Plaza Restroom Project
Appeal Hearing for the Design Review of the Alexander Valley Apartment project.

The City of Cloverdale City Council is hard at work for our community. In addition to the City Council meeting, there are three separate Council Subcommittee meetings scheduled next week including the Finance, Administration & Police, Joint City School Subcommittee and the Homelessness Community Advisory Group.

Porterfield Open Space Prescribed Burn - February 4th

Porterfield Creek Open Space Preserve was closed to the Public on Friday, February 4th to enable Northern Sonoma County Fire to conduct prescribed burning at the Porterfield Creek Open Space Preserve. The Prescribed burning activities focused on the burn piles (pictured below) to reduce excess vegetation.

Prescribed burning activities were supervised by Chief Turbeville and Battalion Chief Rick Blackmon. Cloverdale Police Department was also on site for a portion of the day monitoring activities with the Drone.

Prescribed burning activities wrapped up at approximately 5:00 pm today. Chief Jenkins conducted inspections and reported that Cloverdale Fire will monitor as needed for hot spots.

Zero Waste Sonoma
Mattress Recycle Collection Event

Zero Waste Sonoma has partnered with Conservation Corps North Bay and the Mattress Recycling Council to conduct free mattress collection events. No appointment necessary for these events. All events will be held in the parking lot.

ACCEPTED: Clean, dry mattresses (any size) • Box Springs • Futons. Limit of three units per vehicle per day.
NOT ACCEPTED: Soiled or wet mattresses • Futon frames • Crib mattresses • Mattress toppers

Parks & Recreation Weekly Update

The main focus this week was to locate a significant water leak at City Park identified while performing a weekly park inspection. With the help of the City’s water meter reader Javier Diaz and utility worker Curtis Waller, the leak was located near the playground at the Second Street City Park. The 2” water line is responsible for providing water to the restrooms and maintenance facility. A 2” valve was installed on this system to facilitate repairs of future leaks in the park.

25 yards of wood chips were distributed near the basketball courts at Vintage Meadows Park. The large area was in need of some attention in order to accommodate the regular basketball and pickleball players that the park traffic sees on a regular basis. Tree pruning was also performed at this park.

Downtown Streetscape Signage Refresh

City staff member Craig Johnson is in the process of refreshing the downtown streetscape signage. This week, Craig completed refreshing No Biking No Skateboarding streetscape signs at six locations within the downtown. Additional signage will be refreshed as time and weather permits. Please see photograph below. As a reminder biking and skateboarding is not permitted on sidewalks in downtown Cloverdale due to safety concerns.

Earthquake Warning CA Announcement: MyShake App Updates

What’s new to the MyShake App? The HomeBase feature!
The newest feature to the MyShake App allows users to set a “HomeBase” location to receive earthquake warning alerts, even if location services are turned off. The update allows users to receive earthquake notifications for multiple locations and improves MyShake’s ability to send timely alerts to users.
