Winter Festival and Holiday Season approaching! With the Winter festival and tree lighting event quickly approaching on Friday, December 3rd, Parks staff were busy this week preparing downtown for the holiday season. Streets staff installed Christmas lighting on street lights in the downtown corridor while Parks staff pruned trees to increase visibility for local shops as well as conducted leaf collection. Much of Park staff's focus this week was on prepping the Downtown Plaza. All the Plaza trees where limbed up as well pruning of the focal point Magnolias located on the main entrance. Parks staff member Miguel Sanchez pruned and shaped the blue spruce located near the stage which will serve as our Christmas tree for this years Winter Festival. The blue spruce tree was planted 16 years ago and was roughly about 5 ft. tall at the time. Since then, Parks staff have been shaping the tree and Street Department has taking the lead on decorating the tree for the Christmas holiday. Parks staff also allocated time to perform needed maintenance at the Brookside Terrace L&L District. General landscaping maintenance and clean-up was completed. Several truckloads of leaves were collected inside the landscaping planters as well as on the street to avoid debris entering the City's storm drain system.

Public Works Subcommittee Receives Presentation on Pickle Ball On Tuesday, the Public Works Subcommittee received a presentation from Brad Horrall, Cloverdale's USA Pickleball Ambassador on the possibility of installing dedicated pickle ball courts in Cloverdale. Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, much like a wiffle ball, with 26–40 round holes, over a net.
Brad presented various site options for the subcommittee to consider. Optional sites included Vintage Meadows Park, Furber Park and the High School Tennis Courts (managed by the Cloverdale School District). City Staff will take a look at the options and provide an overview of the options to the Public Works subcommittee at a future meeting.

Water Supply Update – Drought is Not Over The recent rains were a good start and provided some additional storage in our reservoirs, but the drought is not over. Lake Mendocino is still at historic lows and many more storms are needed to bring their storage level up to normal and bring an end to the drought. Ongoing conservation is necessary to save water for the possibility of dry months ahead. Drought Tips and Best Practices
During this historic drought, Cloverdale residents has been working hard to save water. This fall, it’s especially important that we all continue to conserve and one of the best things we can all do is take a break from outdoor irrigation. Irrigation accounts for approximately 50 percent of average summertime water use. By turning off your irrigation this fall we can continue to achieve our community-wide 20 percent water savings goal. Sonoma County Tourism Cares Donation ProgramSonoma County Tourism Cares is pleased to partner with the Cloverdale Chamber of Commerce, Petaluma Visitors Program, Rohnert Park Chamber of Commerce, Sebastopol Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center, and Windsor Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center on a personal hygiene products donation drive.
Sonoma County is home to thousands of unhoused residents. For many, access to personal hygiene products is a continuous struggle, with procurement coming at the expense of other essential needs. From our discussions with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Santa Rosa, we’ve learned that pads, tampons, panty liners, and individually wrapped wipes are all items of particular need.
Throughout the month of November, we are encouraging our hospitality partners to donate hygiene products at a drop-off location below (we recommend calling ahead to confirm office hours). At the end of the month, the products will be donated to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Santa Rosa for distribution to those in need.
Any assistance you can provide, from donating items, to helping promote this effort, is very much appreciated. Questions can be directed to Devin McConnell at dmcconnell@sonomacounty.com. Drop off location in Cloverdale:
Cloverdale Chamber of Commerce Address: 126 N Cloverdale Blvd, Cloverdale, CA 95425 Phone Number: 1-707-894-4470
For additional drop off locations, visit Sonoma County Tourism Cares Volunteer Opportunities | SonomaCounty.com
