Coffee With the Mayor

Coffee with the Mayor was held on Thursday in Downtown Cloverdale adjacent to Plank Coffee. The event attracted about 25 guests, including special guests from the Cloverdale Historical Society.

Mayor Cruz and Vice Mayor Lands provided an update on Wednesday's Special Joint City Council and Planning Commission meeting held the evening prior. Mayor Cruz provided copies of information on the Council's agenda including:

Presentation providing an update on housing law;
Statement by the Sonoma County Mayors condemning violent act committed at the home of Rohnert Park Council Member on July 4th; and
Presentation on the proposed update of the Cloverdale Downtown Plan.

Cloverdale Historical Society Executive Director Elissa Morrash spoke about museum exhibits maintained by the Historical Society and their Docent for a Day program. City of Cloverdale partners with North Bay Animal Services

City Contracts with North Bay Animal Services

The City of Cloverdale has partnered with North Bay Animal Services to provide all animal control-related services within the incorporated city limits. Effective July 1, 2021 North Bay Animal Services had staff assigned to the city to respond to calls for service and provide education on various animal-related topics, including leash laws. The services provided by North Bay will be managed by the Cloverdale Police Department.

Residents may see North Bay Animal Services vehicles in the city every Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. North Bay Animal Service Officers will be available after hours and on-call Sunday-Monday and will respond if needed based on the nature of the call. Please contact the Cloverdale Police non-emergency line at (707) 894-2150 if you need animal control services. Below are the general services provided by North Bay Animal Services:

Russian River Watershed Experiencing Historic Drought

The Russian River watershed is in a historic drought. The watershed has experienced extremely dry weather conditions this water year (WY-2021). A water year begins of October 1 and ends on September 30th of the following year. This is the second consecutive dry water year coming on the heels of WY-2020, which was also very dry. The current drought on record is 1976/1977 when Ukiah received just 16.12 inches of rainfall. As of today, Ukiah has recorded only 12.24 inches of rainfall this year, slightly ahead of 1976/1977 when Ukiah measured 11.27” through April 15. On average, Ukiah receives 37 inches a year. In Santa Rosa, only 12.77 inches of rainfall has fallen this water year, just 3.30 inches more than the driest year of record (1976/1977) when Santa Rosa measured 9.47” through April 15. On average, Santa Rosa receives 32.20” inches a year.
Reservoir capacities are lower than they were during the last drought, which was 2013/2014. View more data on this drought.

Water supply projections show that without additional rainfall and without aggressive water saving by our communities, Lake Sonoma and Lake Mendocino water supply levels will reach historically low levels by October 2021. . The State Water Resources Control Board has already issued letters throughout the region urging water right holders to reduce and conserve water.

Plastic Free July 2021

Plastic Free July Events

Recology Sonoma Marin has partnered with Zero Waste Sonoma on a menu of events and activities for residents to reduce plastic pollution this month. Can you please help us spread the word?

There are four ways for the public to engage in this vision to create a planet free of plastic:

Make the Pledge - The first way for participants to engage in the movement is to join the 326 million others from 177 countries, taking on the challenge to refuse single-use plastic. Sign the pledge here: PlasticFreeJuly.org
Plan a Clean up - Another way for individuals to contribute to Plastic Free July is to plan a litter cleanup day. Did you know that plastic film, plastic food packaging, and expanded polystyrene foam make up three of the top five most littered items in the U.S. (along with cigarette butts and broken glass). Participants are encouraged to document their beach, river, or neighborhood cleanup using the Clean Swell smartphone app, or by taking a photo holding their bag of litter. Those who do so are eligible to receive a prize at the “Story of Plastic” film screening on July 30th.
July 19th: Attend a webinar “Bye Bye Plastic” - The third way to engage this month is to attend the “Bye Bye Plastic” webinar from 12:00 to 1:00 pm on July 19th where several local experts will share their own endeavors in the zero waste space. They will also provide tips on how to phase out plastic from daily life, and help answer questions from the public.
July 30th: Screening of “Plastic Free July - Finally, Plastic Free July will conclude with a 7:00 pm event at the SOMO Village Courtyard in Rohnert Park. Sonoma County businesses and organizations actively supporting zero waste will be tabling before the “Story of Plastic” film screening begins at 8:20 pm. This event is free and open to the public, but guests should bring chairs or blankets to sit on, and remember that outside food and beverages are not permitted.

Household Hazardous Waste Event - Tuesday, July 20th,

Zero Waste Sonoma has scheduled Household Hazardous Events in Cloverdale. Events are scheduled on July 20th and October 12th. The events are by appointment only. Please call (707) 795-2025/toll-free (877) 747-1870 option 3.

Please provide the following information when calling or sending an e-mail: name, phone number, date and location of collection event, and preferred appointment time. Appointment line staffed M-F from 8am to 2:30pm or leave a message. Please make an appointment at least 24 hours prior to the collection event. Once the appointment request is confirmed, you will receive a confirmation with the address of the collection event. Events have a limit of 80 appointments.
