Park Maintenance Update

Parks staff took advantage of the cooler temperatures this week to perform critical weed abatement and landscaping projects. Parks staff took preventative action to address fire concerns  along the 1.2 miles of the Cloverdale River Trail by performing weed abatement. String weed-eating was performed by parks staff along an eight foot apron on both sides of the River Trail, as well as removal of 12 cubic yards of dead vegetation around picnic areas.

Parks and Maintenance staff also prioritized landscaping maintenance in the Downtown Corridor in preparation for upcoming Friday Night Live (FNL) activities in July.  Parks staff pruned and hedged the landscape at the Plaza and installed shade awnings to the existing pergola above the stage.

Water Supply Update

  1. The City Council of the City of Cloverdale declared a Stage 2 drought on April 28, 2021. A mandatory reduction in water use from all businesses and residents is needed. The City Council has set a target citywide reduction of 25% from 2020 water use. The water conservation measures described here are mandatory.
  2. Reservoir capacities are lower than they were during the last drought, which was 2013/2014. View more data on this drought.
  3. Residents are encouraged to continue using water wisely and eliminate water wasting activities. Learn more water saving tips at savingwaterpartnership.org.
  4. Water supply projections show that without additional rainfall and without aggressive water saving by our communities, Lake Sonoma and Lake Mendocino water supply levels will reach historically low levels by October 2021. We will be able to continue to provide water to our customers, however not without some form of conservation requirements if projections come true. The State Water Resources Control Board has already issued letters throughout the region urging water right holders to reduce and conserve water.
