Public Forum Water and Wastewater Rate UpdateDATE: April 7, 2021 TIME: 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
Cloverdale’s City Council has received a recommendation to adjust water and wastewater rates in order to fund a capital spending program that will proactively rehabilitate the City’s aging infrastructure. To fulfill the City Council’s request that the public be updated on the needs for these investments, City staff is inviting all interested members of the community to participate in an interactive public forum to discuss the proposed plans.
The forum will provide an opportunity for the community to learn more about the financial rate study including the financial obligations for ongoing operation and maintenance, debt service, and capital improvements while maintaining prudent financial reserves. The forum is intended to allow the community to provide input and comments on the study and rate adjustments necessary to fund ongoing operations and capital improvement projects to support water and sewer services for our residents”.
Topics covered during the forum will include: • Utility rate increase history at Cloverdale • Cloverdale’s rates compared to other regional utilities • Capital spending program • Other cost drivers • How the City is controlling costs Forum Flyer Public Outreach Presentation - April 7 2021

Days of Service and LearningEarlier this week, in observance of Cloverdale’s 2021 Days of Service and Learning, in honor of César Chávez, students toured the City’s water and wastewater plants. The tour provided an opportunity for students to watch the operation of the City's utilities in person. “The objective is to get kids to understand what municipal services are and what happens when you turn on the faucet or when you flush the toilet,” stated Vice Mayor Marta Cruz, who helped plan the Day of Service and Learning. Students also assisted with food distribution at the Cloverdale Citrus Fair. Activities were funded by District 4 – Supervisor James Gore, Integrated Community Development, Corporation for Better Housing, Anonymous Donors, and Cloverdale Chamber of Commerce.

It's A Dry Year, Save WaterThe Russian River watershed is currently experiencing extremely dry weather conditions. As of March 25, 2021, the water supply in Lake Mendocino is 35,806 acre-feet, which is similar to the level during the 2014 drought.
As of 3/30/21, the Russian River watershed has received only 13.19 inches of rain this water year (October 1 – September 30). Without additional rainfall this spring it is possible this year will be the driest water year on record. This is the second consecutive dry year coming on the heels of last year, which was previously the driest water year on record with only 14.75 inches of rain. View drought monitoring data for Santa Rosa and Ukiah.
Typical summer-time evaporation losses from Lake Mendocino are on the order of 1,000 acre-feet per month. In accordance with provisions in the Order approving the 2021 Sonoma Water Agency Temporary Urgency Change Petition, instream flows requirements for the Upper Russian River are 25 cubic feet per second which is about 1,500 acre-feet per month. Help extend current supplies of water and minimize the effects of the current and possible future water supply shortage by conserving water today. Keep updated on water supply conditions by visiting Sonoma Water's website: Sonoma Water - Current Water Supply Levels.
