Message from Sonoma County Mayors on Racial EpithetsOn March 18, Sonoma County Mayors (Cloverdale Mayor Jason Turner) issued a statement, supported by the Mayors of all nine cities in Sonoma County and the Chair of the County Board of Supervisors in response to racial epithets directed toward Rohnert Park Vice Mayor Elward.
Sonoma County Mayors value the diversity of our residents and our elected officials who represent them and acknowledge that our diversity is critical to our collective cities' cultural, social and economic well-being. The Mayors of Sonoma County remain resolute in a collective commitment to condemn racism, discrimination and all forms of hatred, none of which will be tolerated in our cities. We condemn all threats and racist behavior used as weapons to intimidate any member of our community including our locally elected officials. Sonoma County Mayors stand with our community of Sonoma County, in particular our Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Indigenous and Asian community members and residents as well as members of our LGBTQI community. We stand in opposition to any and all racism in our cities. As leaders we are committed to supporting an inclusive community in Sonoma County grounded in equity, empathy and justice.

County Moves Into Red TierAs of last Sunday 3/14, Sonoma County has moved to the Substantial (Red) Tier within California's four-tier, color-coded Blueprint for a Safer Economy. This change is a result of the state's decision to adjust the minimum case rate requirement from 7 to 10 per 100,000 once California finished administering 2 million vaccine doses in the state's 400 zip codes that have been most disproportionately impacted by the virus.
The Red Tier means that - Restaurants are allowed to open indoors with 25 percent capacity or a maximum of 100 people, whichever is fewer.
- Retail establishments are allowed to open indoors at 50 percent capacity.
- Movie theaters are allowed to open indoors with 25 percent capacity or 100 people, whichever is fewer.
- Gyms are allowed to open indoors with 10 percent capacity.
- Museums, zoos, and aquariums can open indoor activities at 25 percent capacity.
- Breweries, wineries and distilleries that do not serve meals may open outdoors only with modifications.

New Eligibility for Local Residents For COVID-19 VaccinationsNew this week, anyone 16 and older who has a health condition that puts them at greater risk of COVID-19 is eligible to be vaccinated. These health conditions are defined online by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Additional people who are now eligible include many people with developmental or other severe disabilities or illness, an expanded group of emergency services workers, and individuals who live or work in a congregate residential setting. Sonoma County has now surpassed 200,000 vaccine doses administered with nearly 17 percent of our 16 and older population fully vaccinated and 35 percent is partially vaccinated. Vaccines are currently offered by Alexander Valley Healthcare to residents living in Cloverdale, Geyserville, and Hopland, California. Vaccinations are scheduled for Tuesday, March 23, 9 am – 4 pm at the Cloverdale Train Depot. California Experiencing Record-Breaking Dry WeatherThe State of California is experiencing record-breaking dry weather. Much of the west is gripped by persistent drought, including large areas of exceptional drought in the Southwest. Sonoma County is experiencing the 22nd driest year to date in 127 years of precipitation record.
The State Water Resources Control Board (Water Board) is evaluating current water resources availability. The Water Board will likely announce a drought state of emergency proclamation once their evaluation is complete. The Cloverdale City Council will also consider taking action to conserve water and curtail water usage once the Water Board completes its analysis and makes a proclamation. The City’s Water Department continues to evaluate projected Russian River summer flows and is actively planning a drought operational response.
