Sonoma County COVID-19
Reopening Metrics & Tier Status

Sonoma County has been at or below an adjusted case rate of 10 new cases per 100,000 population per day for the past two weekly tier determinations. The state has announced the minimum case rate for transition from the purple tier to the red tier will change from 7 cases per day to 10 per 100,000 population once California finishes administering 2 million vaccine doses. Specifically, the State may allow counties to move to the red tier with 10 or fewer cases per 100,000 per day rather than requiring 7 or fewer. According to Health Officer Dr. Sundari Mase, Sonoma County will likely move into the red tier on either Monday (3/15) or Tuesday (3/16).  However, Sonoma County could possibly move into the Red Tier as soon as Saturday if California reaches the 2 M vaccinations threshold (estimated by Friday). The Health Department continues to recommend following key mitigation measures including social distancing, wearing face coverings and washing your hands. Getting tested also remains vital to moving through the tiers.

Vaccine Distribution in Sonoma County

Sonoma County has now administered 162,671 vaccines. Only 13 of California’s 58 counties, all of them significantly larger than ours, have distributed more. As of Wednesday, Sonoma County had administered a total of 162,671 doses.

  • Residents with first dose: 66,969
  • Residents fully vaccinated with two doses: 47,853 (two doses or single Janssen)

This means, nearly 12 percent of our eligible population (16 years old and up) is now
fully vaccinated while 28 percent has received at least one dose.

The County’s vaccine distribution website, SoCoEmergency.org/vaccine is continually updated, giving the public detailed information about the vaccination rollout, safety and how the vaccine is being disseminated in Sonoma County..
