Increase in Catalytic Converter thefts in Cloverdale

On January 6th at 6:23 pm, Cloverdale Police posted a “Beware of Catalytic Converter Thieves” post on the department's Facebook Page to warn citizens about the increase in thefts of this device from Toyota Prius vehicles.  Since that posting, three additional catalytic converters from Toyota Prius vehicles were reported stolen within the Cloverdale community. Thieves specifically target the Toyota Prius because it’s a cleaner-burning car and the catalytic converter contains a very high concentration of palladium (a precious metal needed to convert harmful exhaust gases like carbon dioxide into water vapor)

To prevent further thefts, the police department recommends parking inside a garage if possible, or under well-lit areas, preferably areas with surveillance cameras if available.  Another deterrent is the purchase and installation of a CAT SECURITY SHIELD or similar device which is a robust aluminum plate that, once installed, provides a strong barrier against catalytic converter theft. This device makes stealing your catalytic converter nearly impossible without some serious time, making it less appealing for would-be-criminals. If you witness unusual activity, please report to the Police Department by calling (707) 894-2150. Nixle Alert

Repair & Construction in Jefferson Springs

This week, Parks staff allocated most of their time completing a critical project in the Landscape & Lighting District Jefferson Springs.

This repair/construction project consisted of carefully drilling several 3ft deep holes, then anchoring 6x6 posts reinforced by concrete, the goal being to create a guard barrier along the exiting bridge. In an effort to keep walkers safe as well as address the constant erosion issues that the trail has been experiencing for the last several years. A French Drain system which we also installed will aid in preventing further erosion by redirecting the water away from the trail. Special Thanks to Dylan Mills and Curtis Waller for their assistance. Sonoma County Biomass Business Competition
Sonoma County Biomass Business Competition

Northern Sonoma County Air Pollution District (NoSoCoAir) announces Biomass Business competition (Bio Biz Competition).

The Competition seeks to turn wildfire risk in Sonoma County into an economic development opportunity. Through a county-wide collaboration of forest experts, business leaders and public officials, the Competition is looking to build a wood products industry in Sonoma from forest restoration projects by directly investing in entrepreneurs who can catalyze an untapped sector in California. The Sonoma County Biomass Business Competition is requesting proposals to  create economic incentives and markets which support fire safe vegetation management and avoids air pollution.  The intent is for the selected awardee to play a critical role in utilizing wood waste that would have otherwise been a fire threat, or open pile burned.  Through this Competition, we invite all eligible applicants to develop a business plan proposal to launch a new wood product industry in the region. We encourage all considerations for launching a new venture or expanding their existing business to build a wood utilization market. Competitive applicants will directly address what is explained in the RFP. Request for Proposal

Applicants must submit an Applicant Cover Sheet, Executive Summary Business Concept  (5p limit), Resumes, Articles of Incorporation for their business, and additional proof of concept to support business concept. The Napa-Sonoma County Small Business Development Center is hosting free workshops to help applicants develop a biomass business plan.
