About the Chief of Police
Chief Jason Ferguson has a combined total of 24 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career in 1996 with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office where he was hired as a corrections officer working at the jail. While there he gained experience and knowledge of the criminal justice system and participated in ride-a-longs with fellow deputies. Through those experiences he took a strong interest in patrolling the streets and interacting with the community and applied for the Lakeport Police Department as a Reserve Police Officer. In June of 1998 he was hired as a Level II Reserve Police Officer where he performed similar functions of a full time police officer. In September of 1998 he was offered the opportunity to become a full time police officer with Lakeport and was hired as a Police Officer Trainee and sponsored while attending the Santa Rosa Junior College Police Academy.
Jason graduated from the police academy in May of 1999 and began working as a full time police officer. While working at Lakeport he served as a Field Training Officer, Reserve Coordinator, Narcotic Task Force Agent, School Resource Officer, Sergeant and Lieutenant.
While working full time as a Police Lieutenant, Jason pursued his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Management and received his diploma in December 2015. He is the recipient of his Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Supervisory and Management professional certificates issued by the State of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
Jason describes his leadership style as transformational where the focus is on inspiring, empowering and motivating people through a team concept. Community engagement is a top priority under in his leadership and he believes being involved with the community and giving back to the community are keys to the success of any law enforcement organization.
Jason enjoys a variety of outdoor recreational activities and spending time with his four daughters.
