About the Chief of Police
Stephen Cramer has worked as a sixteen year law enforcement professional for two small municipal agencies in Sonoma County.  Stephen was hired by the Sonoma Police Department in 1997.  He promoted to Field Training Officer in 2000, and Sergeant in 2002.  Stephen joined the Cloverdale Police Department in 2005 and rose to the ranks of Field Training Officer in 2005, Corporal in 2007, Acting Sergeant in 2009, and full Sergeant in 2010.  During the course of his career, Stephen has supervised most of the collateral administrative responsibilities including the running of the Field Training Program, Property & Evidence Room Management, Training Management, Scheduling, Grant Writing, and Asset Forfeiture Program.  Stephen has actively participated in the budget process, equipment purchasing, recruitment, and has written the department’s Annual Report.

Stephen earned his Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco, a Master of Arts in Leadership from St. Mary’s College of California, a Master of Science in Organization Development from the University of San Francisco, and a Juris Doctorate from Empire College of Law.  Stephen is a two-time recipient of the University of San Francisco’s School of Management Dean’s Medal of Excellence.  Stephen holds his POST Advanced and Supervisory Certificates, and is a 2013 graduate of the prestigious California Peace Officer Standards and Training Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute.

Stephen had an academic article on Restorative Justice published in the Columbia College of South Carolina’s International Undergraduate Journal for Service-Learning, Leadership, and Social Change.  In addition, one of Stephen’s felony child sexual assault arrests was published by the California Appellate Court.  Stephen is a Mothers Against Drunk Driving Heroes Award recipient and a two-time Cloverdale Police Department Police Officer of the Year recipient.   He also prepared the winning submission for the California Law Enforcement Challenge, a competition between similar size and type of law enforcement agencies for the best traffic safety programs in California.

Stephen is a three-time cancer survivor.  Stephen is married to his wife, Tami.  Together they have seven children and five grandchildren (with a sixth on the way).  Stephen & Tami make their home in Cloverdale.
